proud mommy moment

I was going through Maddie's papers that she brought home from school on Friday. In her folder I found an essay she wrote, entitled "People I Admire." Her essay began with writing about Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln, explaining all the reasons she admires them and the things they accomplished. But it was the last paragraph that made my heart swell:

"The last group I admire is my own mom and dad. They lead me to Christ by living a life centered around Him. Also, they put up with me when I couldn't put up with myself."

Are there any greater words that a mom would want to hear?

All these years. All the feelings of inadequacy. All the times it has seemed they just don't get it. Moments spent wondering if we have screwed up one too many times. The tears. The frustration. The feelings of just wanting to pack it all up and move to Hawaii.

Gone.

It is worth it. They do get it. Only by the grace of God.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
